Q: What happens if I accidently put too much essential oils on?
A: Essential oils are safe natural alternatives when used in moderation and wisely. More is not better. It’s important to understand that essential oils are very concentrated plant compounds and they should be measured in drops. If by accident you apply too much here’s what you can do:
– If you have used too much and you start to feel sick:
Applying too much oil can lead to flu like symptoms: headache, nausea, generally not feeling well. Using too much oil can also trigger a detoxification in the body. If this happens drink lots of water and eat something. It usually takes your body about 90 minutes to metabolize off the more part of the excessive load. If you are not feeling better after roughly 2 hours consult your healthcare practitioner. REMEMBER: More is Not Better
– If you’ve applied an essential oil and it feels burning or hot to the skin:
Flood the area with a carrier oil, (ie. extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, jojoba or Bella Oil, or any fatty oil of your preference). Wipe the essential oil off with that carrier oil. If you ever apply an essential oil and it becomes hot on the skin then you can apply a carrier oil to the area and wipe off the essential oil, leaving some carrier oil on over the area. This helps to slow the absorption of the essential oil and will stop the burning and heat. Repeat this a couple times if necessary.
Q: Can a person react in a negative way to pure essential oils?
A: Yes. If you are allergic or sensitive to a plant, fruit, or herb you may be allergic or sensitive to the essential oil of that plant. Please be responsible for not using essential oils that you are allergic or sensitive to. If you suspect an allergy or sensitivity please patch test the oil before use. To do a patch test take the essential oil in question and dilute it in a carrier oil at least 50%. Take one drop of the diluted oil and place it in the fold of the arm at the elbow or behind ear. Watch this area for 24 hours to make sure you do not experience any reaction. Please dilute essential oils properly. Never use an essential oil undiluted unless advised by your healthcare professional or Certified Aromatherapist.
Q: Can essential oils be put in my ears?
A: No. Never. Keep all essential oils away from the eyes and the ear canals. You never put essential oils in your eyes or in your ear canals.

Q: What happens if you get essential oils in your eyes?
A: You should quickly flood and rinse the eyes with carrier oil or milk, an example would be extra virgin olive oil. This will help stop the burning. This helps to slow the absorption of the essential oil and will stop the burning and feeling of heat. Repeat this a couple times if necessary. If burning persists see your healthcare practitioner.
Q: Can I use all the same essential oils I use on myself on my children just by diluting them?
A: No. Children under age 9 or 10 years old do not have fully developed livers and some essential oils can actually cause them harm, toxicity, and liver damage. Diluting essential oils that are not safe for kids just gives you diluted oils that are not safe for kids. Adding a carrier oil does not change the molecules or chemistry of an essential oil, and does not make certain essential oils safe for kids. Pregnant women, infants, and children should not use essential oils without first consulting a healthcare professional. Please always practice age appropriate aromatherapy. Terésa Essentials is compiling a list of appropriate essential oils for use with children.
Q: How much do I dilute essential oils?
A: It depends on who you are using them for and what you are using them for. Here is the dilution chart:

Q. What if someone accidently ingests too much essential oils?
If someone has accidentally ingested a large amount of essential oils, 10 to 20 drops or more. If they are not feeling well consult your healthcare practitioner immediately.
Q. Do essential oils have a shelf life?
A. Yes, essential oils have a shelf life.
Citrus essential oils (orange, wild orange, lemon, grapefruit, tangerine, etc.) expire the fastest. They are monoterpenes which means they have a very small molecule that oxidize quickly. They have a shelf life of 1-2 years depending on how they are stored. Storing them in a cool dry environment will extend the shelf life for maximum of 2 years. Older oils may be used for cleaning products.
Most essential oils fall into the normal shelf life range from 3-5 years. They last longer stored in a cool dark environment. Use your essential oils.
They are only a few essential oils that get better with age, for example Vetiver, Patchouli, and Sandalwood. Terésa Essentials uses these oils in their blends. Essential oils like these have the longest shelf life.
